He was born in South Africa

Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1971 until he left to Canada in June 1989, when he was about 17 years old. It was much easier to migrate there as his mother holds a Canadian citizenship. After obtaining a Canadian passport himself too, he then moved to the United States.

Therefore, he actually holds citizenships from three different countries; South Africa, United States and Canada.

He dropped out of Stanford

Musk has earned two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania — one in economics and another one in physics. At the age of 24, Elon Musk received an offer to join the Stanford PhD Physics program. However, just two days into the program, he made the decision to drop out in order to start his very first company.

In many of his interviews Elon Musk has told that his companies are even hiring people with no “traditional” education background. If you have the skills (and not necessarily the degree) then you are welcome to work for Elon Musk.

His first company was Zip2

Elon Musk’s first company was Zip2, originally named Global Link Information Network. It offered online business directories and later rebranded as Zip2 after securing a $3 million investment. In a notable achievement, Zip2 was sold to Compaq for nearly $300 million, marking a significant milestone in Musk’s entrepreneurial journey.

When Elon Musk appeared in Iron Man 2, some people speculated that he inspired the character of Tony Stark. Both Musk and Robert Downey Jr.’s character share similarities as wealthy, intelligent individuals. However, the movie’s director, Jon Favreau, clarified that Iron Man is based on the comic books and not specifically on Musk. Nonetheless, Downey Jr. did meet with Musk to gain insights into what it would be like to be a real-life Tony Stark. They had a conversation and discussed various interesting topics.

He didn’t found Tesla

Elon Musk didn’t found Tesla. Tesla, Inc was founded in 2003 by Marc Tarpenning and Martin Eberhard. Musk get involved in 2004 when he funded them £6.5 million and became chairman of the board of directors. He became CEO in 2008 and in 2009 there was a lawsuit which resulted in Elon Musk and four others all being able to call themselves co-founders.

He has never accepted a salary from Tesla

In 2018, his salary was $56,380, which decreased to $23,760 in 2019. However, the company clarified that Musk did not accept his salary during those years. In 2020, his reported salary dropped to zero. This highlights Musk’s commitment and dedication to his work, prioritizing the growth and success of Tesla over personal financial gain.

He appeared in popular TV series and sitcoms

Elon Musk has made memorable appearances on popular TV shows. In 2015, he voiced a CEO character in “The Simpsons” episode titled “The Musk Who Fell to Earth.” He later made a guest appearance on the well-known sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” These appearances highlighted Musk’s willingness to engage in the entertainment industry and further boosted his public profile.

Bought a James Bond Car for $997,000

In 2013, Elon Musk bought James Bond’s classic submarine car, Lotus Esprit for $997,000 at a London auction. This car was featured in the film, ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. The car was supposed to transform into a submarine and shoot missiles in the movie. However, Elon was disappointed to find out that it couldn’t actually work as a submarine.

To make his dream come true, Elon decided to install a Tesla electric power system into the car and make it into a real submarine. This showed Elon’s determination to turn futuristic ideas into reality.

Tried to Sell Tesla to Google

Elon Musk is popularly known for Tesla Inc. The company which is producing electric cars is now making billions of profit.

In 2013, when Tesla was in his down phase Elon Musk tried to sell the electric automobile giant to Google with some demands. Elon Musk was an old friend Larry Page. Who was Google’s CEO. So, he offered his friend to buy Tesla Inc for $6 billion.

Elon Musk also had some other demands. These included asking for $5 billion from Google for factory expenses, a guarantee that Google would not close down the company unless they developed a third-generation electric car, and Musk’s desire to lead the company for a period of eight years. But this deal never really happened.
